Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for Ottawa as the city prepares for heavy snow on Monday, Feb. 3.

According to the advisory, five to 10 centimetres of snow is expected, but these numbers may increase during the day. The snow is set to begin in the afternoon and will continue throughout the evening.

Monday is expected to begin with freezing rain in the morning, with a low of -8 C. The city will feel much colder, with the temperature dropping to a low of -14 C with the wind chill.

Environment Canada is warning Ottawa residents that heavy snow and reduced visibility may cause unsafe travel conditions.

The snow is expected to decrease in the evening. It will be partly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of rain. Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of -10 C.
